Five Luminous Studies is a set of pieces for solo wind instruments and piano. Each short piece depicts an aspect of light:  Ignition, Reflection, Radiance, Pulse, and Flare.  The pieces were commissioned by Pentaèdre for the Pentaèdre-Youkali Competition.  In writing for the competition, I needed to ensure that each individual piece presented similar challenges for the performers.  Each piece features both free, lyrical music and rhythmic, fast music.
